Lil Recer's Preschool Director

Amy Carpenter
Ph: 203-294-2120

My name is Amy Carpenter. I am the new director to the Lil Rec’ers Program at the Wallingford Park and Recreation Department. This position has fulfilled a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I am also a wife to my amazing husband of 16 years as well as a mom to two beautiful daughter, Jaidyn who is 16 and Kelsey who is 12. We live on a farm in Wallingford with llamas, goats, and ducks. I graduated from Mercy High School in 2001. I worked as a customer service representative until I decided what I wanted for a career. I started my education to become a teacher in 2010 at Middlesex Community College. In 2013 I was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. I graduated with my Associates Degree in Human Services in 2014. That was not enough for me as I could not teach with that degree. I went on to get my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education as well as a certificate for Child Development Associate (CDA) in 2015. While working to further my education, in 2016 I obtained a job as a long-term substitute in the office of Cook Hill Elementary School. In 2017 I continued to work in the same school as their building sub. I would substitute in any position needed for the day. As I was getting ready to graduate with my bachelor’s degree, I was placed as the long-term substitute in the Pre-K 3 Classroom. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in May of 2018 in Child Studies. In 2019 I took a position as a long-term substitute in a first-grade classroom at Cook Hill. For the last couple of years, I was the child associate at Cook Hill and Highland. As a child associate, I would conduct play therapy with the students who needed it. I also worked part-time at the park and rec as an assistant teacher. The 2021-2022 school year was my first full year at the park and rec as head teacher in the 3-year-old room.
